Initial situation

The urban district of Brand is an excellent housing area in the south of Aachen and offers a home to about 17.000 residents. Next to its meaning as a housing area, Brand is an important economic business location in Aachen.

The plan area has an extent of 4,8 ha and in the north it reaches out to the heavily used Trierer Strasse, whose appearance is affected by the current unstructured
business.


Urban planning

The developing retail facilities will have a clear connection to the Trierer Strasse. A central storing position area will secure the future supply of the businesses. The benefit of the rearrangement is the concentration of the retail industry in a combined
area for allotment and parking space. Additionally the parking space is available from the Rombachstrasse.

The new arranged public and half public open places are an integral part of the master plan providing a higher standard of life and living environment. The central
plaza conduces as an accommodation center and will be brought to life by gastronomic offers.

The open spaces will be connected by a spider web like road system to the surrounding area. Providing identification for the single residential paths will follow through the planting of different tree lanes. Half public path broadening will strengthen the effect.


Domestic building

To achieve a high standard of individual accommodation offers, the first floor of the housing areas will be placed to disposal as specific areas, which can be used by the surrounding apartments, in a variation of size and type. At the new created accommodation center the usage of offices with a separate entrance in the ground floor will be imaginable. The business buildings will be integrated by a build-over with apartments, roof gardens and communal areas into the master plan.
